I salute the Government for agreeing to put up funding to help train 45 eye nurses and eight eye doctors to work in the Pacific.
Foreign Minister Murray McCully said $5.6 million over three years would go to a transtasman Pacific eye health project.
An estimated 80,000 people in the Pacific are blind and a further 250,000 suffer impaired vision. Up to 75 percent of blindness is preventable. We should help where we can.
