People are always in a doubt and not sure whether to use the glasses or content lenses. Most of the people prefer glasses and some of them also use contact lenses as well but due to the latest advancements modern contact lenses are much more effective and used over glasses.
The first contacts actually date back to the 19th century, believe it or not. They were brown glass lenses and were hard to wear but helped people that could not wear glasses. The big breakthroughs came about in the 1940s and 50s when plastic lenses started being made. These early plastic contact lenses were made of polymethyl methacrylte, which did not allow oxygen to pass through. The new ones are rigid gas permeable and allow oxygen to pass through. Your corneas don’t get oxygen from your blood but instead get it from the air around you, so it’s important that contact lenses are breathable.
- Younger. Contacts makes you looks younger and match everything you wear.
- Sports. The functional advantages of contact lenses over glasses can be felt in areas like sports like swimming and running, working in humid conditions and also in occupations where glasses can be very inconvenient and may not be compatible when using equipment like special headgears.
- No distortion. When contact lenses are worn correctly on the cornea of the eye, the vision is very similar to the natural vision. The objects are seen in the right size and position without any kind of distortion of the image. The objects appear in the correct size and position
- Peripheral (side) vision. Contact lenses provide all round vision and they have a psychological impact resulting in increased confidence compared with spectacles.
- No steam up. Contact lenses do not steam up due to body heat or perspiration. They also neither fog when exposed to cold weather nor get splattered in the rain.
- Different types of lenses. If you vision is changing only for one eye you can easily change only one of two contact lens.
- Some correction of medical problems of the eyes. The protection of contacts can often help someone with an injured cornea.
- Comfortable. Contact lenses do not leave marks on the nose and are very comfortable to wear. No pressure is felt on the ears, temple, or nose unlike the glasses.
- UV protection. They are also fitted with UV protection in most cases and could protect your eyes from sun’s UV.
- Optical Instruments. Use of optical instruments such as microscope and camera becomes easier.
Always keep one thing in mind that your eyes are most precious and delicate gift of the nature and contact lenses are the excellent pieces of equipment that have developed after a long research. Therefore buy using them in such a way they are meant for will provide the excellent results without any hassle. Researcher advise, not to compromise on the quality as you have only one pair of eye which is not disposable.
